On Monday, January 19th (6th in Julian calendar) we celebrated BOGOJAVLJENJE- THEOPHANY OF THE LORD. Here is a short video of Blessing of the Waters service.
On January 6, 2009 (n.s.) / December 24, 2008 (o.s.) we celebrated Nativity Eve - Badnje Veče with the ceremonial burning of the badnjak tree at the conclusion of the service. The following day, Nativity - Božic, we had as our dear guest Fr. Roman Star, dean for the Moscow Patriarchate in Midwestern America and rector of St. Innocent's Russian Orthodox Church in Redford, MI.
We would like to welcome our newest member, Dean, into Christ's Church! He is the son of Dean and Katy Atovski. May God grant His servant, Dean, many years!
Our Church of St. Petka Serbian Orthodox Church-"Vratnica" in Troy celebrated its Church Slava on Sunday, October 26, 2008. After celebrating the Divine Liturgy we cut the Slava Kolach with our kumovi for this year, Zlatko and Ljiljana Velkovski.
On the following day, on the feastday of the Holy and Venerable Mother Paraskeva, Fr. Kristijan was joined at the Divine Liturgy by Fr. Roman Star, dean of the Midwest for the Moscow Patriarchate and parish priest at St. Innocent Russian Orthodox Church in Redford, Michigan. Also serving was Deacon Ivan Feloniuk, deacon at St. Vladimir Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia in Ann Arbor.
On October 26th (October 13th Julian calendar) St. Petka celebrated its Slava, marking our church temple's third anniversary since its consecration. Seen in the pictures are our Kumovi for this year, Zlatko and Ljiljana Velkovski.
Blessing for the Beginning of the New School Year - 09/14/08
On September 14th (September 1st in the old calendar) the Prayer for the Descent of the Holy Spirit was read while on bended knee to enlighten the school children of our parish with wisdom and to excel in school. At the end of the prayer, the children were blessed with holy water sprinkled upon their heads.
